Like the Scriptures, the Church Fathers and Doctors, whenever I look at the sky through the lens of faith I see a sacrament, a luminous, visible sign manifesting of the unseen immensity and boundless vastness of our God. And if we define this sacrament with St. Augustine as ‘a sort of visible word,’ the message of the skies is clear: God is excessive.

This is why I find Hubble Telescope to be much like the Mother of God, magnifying for us the greatness of the infinite glory of the majestic, awful and life-creating Trinity who dwells in unapproachable light.
